Assistant Professor of Accounting
University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa · Shidler College of Business · Honolulu, HI
I study corporate governance and contract theory, building analytical models of how boards and incentives shape managerial behavior.
I earned my Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 2023, advised by Professor Volker Laux. Away from the page, I enjoy tennis, singing, and playing piano—and time with my wife, Jaclyn, and our son. Aloha.

A master’s-level course for MAcc students that examines why accounting works the way it does, not simply how to apply it. Students study voluntary disclosure, conservatism, and executive compensation while building the tools to engage with research, including game theory, experimental design, and statistics. The participation-intensive course culminates in a group project that develops the opening of an original research paper.

ACC 465B · Undergraduate Capstone
Managerial Accounting and Taxation Capstone
The managerial accounting half of Shidler’s undergraduate capstone for graduating accounting majors. Students apply their knowledge through cases, including Merton Truck Company and Performance Pay at Safelite Auto Glass, then develop a group proposal for a new campus business supported by demand, cost, breakeven, and NPV analysis.
This course is co-taught, and I teach the managerial accounting half. Because the reported ratings combine both instructors, I have not posted them; the comments below refer specifically to my portion of the course.
- “Instructor Abhishek Ramchandani was very lighthearted and made the class an inviting, comforting space. Learning became enjoyable and I looked forward to his classes, even when I knew there was going to be content that was difficult.”
- “The portion taught by Abhi was wonderful — a great teacher who was passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. It was very easy to follow along, thanks to the way information was presented and how engaging he made the class.”
- “Professor Ramchandani was clear in his expectations for this course. He did a great job explaining concepts and facilitated excellent discussions on the material, which I found the most valuable part of the course.”
